Why Hong Kong's International Wine & Spirits Fair?

In 2017, Hong Kong will host the 10^th edition of the Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Fair. Since the country eliminated its tariff on wine in 2008, wine imports have been on the rise from $341 million USD to $1.1 billion USD in 2014 a 219% increase. The wine scene is growing at a rapid pace and Hong Kong’s duty free ports and low technical barriers to trade favor this trend. In 2014, US wines enjoyed a 5% market share, which accounted for a total of $58 million USD. Hong Kong’s tourism and hospitality industry are some of the main consumers of wine, nearby neighbors such as Macau also offer an excellent opportunity considering that Hong Kong is a major transshipping center.

In 2015, this fair invited a total of 20,394 buyers from 75 countries and 1,065 exhibitors from 32 countries. Aside from wine the fair is also a platform for promoting sake, beer and other types of spirits.
