The Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) region has been importing substantial volumes of wood species products from the U.S. and the rest of the world. Specifically, South Africa is the largest importer of wood species in the southern Africa region and functions as the distribution hub for many nearby countries, particularly Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia. The U.S. is one of the top ten wood species exporters to South Africa in terms of value. If the status quo of the forestry industry in South Africa remains, demand for imported wood species and its products will continue to grow over the next decade.
